Strobist “On Location” kit.

This is my on ‘location’ kit. 2xSB-800s, SB-600, PhotoFlex LiteDome Q3 9, a Wescott 32″ umbrella and two or three stands.

I have replaced the SB600 with a SB900 since this article was written.

Flashes controlled with the D300′s Commander mode.

There is something eerie about that model head on a stick. I’m building up a similar kit for a “portable” studio. How do you like the 32″ umbrella? Right now I have the 45″ with a Canon 580ex II. I am trying to decide for the next stand if I should get a smaller umbrella or a softbox.

I get that a lot about the ‘head on a stick’… but she doesn’t complain at all.

The 32″ umbrella was finally damaged beyond use, fell over one too many times. I have replaced it with a 45″ one. The 32″ is a better size though, in tight quarters the 45″er is cumbersome and an even bigger ‘sail’ outside. As i already have the softbox, which I like a lot, I will replace the 45″ with a 32″ soon.
